Hooken Landslip, Devon south coast. The massive chalk lies on top of softer clay and mudstone (the mudstone underneath is 100 million years older than the chalk is, but that's another story...). The slippery layer underneath means that chunks of the chalk slid seawards in 1789, to make a narrow nature-reserve hollow half way up the cliff face.
